Long-term Foreign Residents Are Entitled To A Free Visit To Angkor

(Phnom Penh): The Royal Government of Cambodia has granted permission for foreigners or investors to stay in the country to apply for a visit to Angkor and Koh Ker archaeological park once a year, free of charge. This is according to the announcement of Angkor Institute on September 1, 2022.

The move aims to promote domestic tourism and encourage expats living in Cambodia to visit Siem Reap, Angkor Enterprise said in the announcement.

To apply for a free yearly visit to Angkor and Koh Ker temples can be obtained online (via the Angkor Institution website or spass.angkorenterprise.gov.kh) from September 9, 2022, or apply in person at Angkor Institution during business hours and with a copy of their passport and residence permit proving they have lived in Cambodia for at least two years. Applicants must also provide a 4x6-size photo taken within the last six months from the date of this announcement onwards.

Please take notice that the Royal Government has decided to provide permission to all foreigners who have been living in the Kingdom of Cambodia for two years in order to stimulate domestic tourism as well as to promote foreigners staying in Cambodia. A visit to Angkor can be requested by anyone up to and including diplomats, investors, officials working for international organizations, foreign nationals employed by companies and private enterprises of all kinds, experts working in ministries, public and private institutions, and families who have stayed with them.

On August 4, Minister of Tourism, Thong Khon, spoke at the launch of the Siem Reap Tourism Development Master Plan (2022-2023) initiative to boost domestic tourism. Waiving the entrance fee at Angkor for foreigners who have lived and worked in Cambodia for two years or more formed part of the plan.
