This high-speed railway has a width of 1,435 mm, a speed for traffic is 160 km / h, and a total of 33 stations to operate (19 stations in the short-term plan and additional plans. 14 more in the long-term plan).

The line will be equipped with electric locomotives, with more than 300 overpasses built to avoid traffic accidents at the intersection with the road and there is a separation between the passenger station and the loading station in Phnom Penh (one at Phnom Penh station for passengers and the other at Samrong station for loading).

Please be informed that according to the request to study the feasibility of the project to upgrade the northern Phnom Penh-Poipet railway to the high-speed railway of the Bridge and Road Corporation of China (CRBC) on December 17, 2021, and The Ministry Public Works and Transport decided to grant a permit for the study of this project on January 6th, 2022.

The project focuses on international passenger and freight services between Cambodia and Thailand, as well as long-distance passenger and freight transport from Phnom Penh to Poipet, passing through Kandal, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey provinces.
